Caravaning continues to draw in adventurers as it offers both freedom and comfort. Our recent survey of over 1,300 touring caravan insurance customers provides valuable insights into the habits, preferences and trends that shaped caravan journeys in 2024, as well as plans for 2025.
Caravan Usage Frequnecy
Although caravan habits vary widely, the majority of respondents enjoyed multiple trips this year. The most common frequency is 2-5 trips, chosen by 37% (500) of respondents, followed by a notable 32% (440) who took 6-10 trips.
A smaller number (10%) embarked on 11-15 trips and an enthusiastic 14% (202 caravanners) went on more than 16 caravan adventures in 2024.
2025 Travel Plans
Looking ahead to 2025, people’s enthusiasm for caravanning remains strong. Nearly half of respondents (48%) expressed a desire to increase the number of trips they take. Meanwhile, 49% plan to maintain their current travel frequency, suggesting a widespread contentment with current caravan activity levels. Only 2% plan to take fewer trips this year further highlighting that people are satisfied with their caravanning lifestyle or they want to increase their number of trips; only a small minority see reason to scale back.
Trip Duration and Preferences
In 2024, the typical duration of customer’s trips were of short to mid-length duration.
The most popular trip length was 3-5 nights as chosen by 31% of survey respondents. One-week trips were also common as 28% of people cited this as their typical trip length.
Looking ahead to 2025, the majority of respondents (69%) plan to maintain the same length trips, suggesting they are satisfied with the duration of their current caravan holidays.
28% of respondents said they intend to extend the length of their caravan holidays implying that just under a third of people have become enthusiastic about travelling in their caravan.
Overall, this suggests that people are either content with their current caravan use or are eager to use it more frequently in 2025, making it a larger part of their lives.
Caravan Destinations: UK Dominates but Europe Beckons
The majority of respondents selected the United Kingdom as their favourite country for caravan trips. Outside of the UK, France and Spain were the most popular destinations.
When asked about their favourite county for caravan trips, the West Country came out on top, with the most popular counties being Cornwall (100 votes), Dorset (75 votes) and Devon (74 votes).
Only 8% of our customers went caravanning in both the UK and Europe in 2024. However, the number of people wanting to travel to both regions in 2025 nearly doubles, rising to 15%. This indicates a growing enthusiasm for exploring more of Europe and discovering new caravan destinations.
Caravan Site Preferences
According to the responses, when selecting a caravan site to visit, convenience is the top priority. 46% of people cite the quality of facilities, including water, gas and wi-fi as the most important factor when it comes to choosing a location.
The second most significant consideration for 42% of respondents is the availability of nearby activities such as walks, and the ease of access.
Quiet surroundings are the third most important factor with 37% of people prioritising this. Other popular factors include sites being adult-only and pet-friendly.
Attracting 63% of Eversure touring caravan customers, the most popular type of caravan park is a full-service caravan park, defined as a site with pitches that have access to water, electricity and drainage as well as the park having showers, toilets, laundrette facilities, shops and restaurants. Basic caravan sites are also popular; 34% of people opt to pitch here. Only 31 (2%) of our most adventurous caravanners opt for remote, off-grid locations.

Other popular options include 4x4 off-road vehicles (20%), estate cars (15%), and large sedans (7%). This makes it clear that customers prioritise vehicles capable of handling a variety of terrains and towing needs alongside comfort and practicality.
Caravanning in the New Year
Caravan enthusiasts are looking forward to an adventurous 2025, with many planning more trips and some aiming for extended stays. Whilst the UK remains the top destination, there is a noticeable rise in interest in exploring Europe, reflecting a growing sense of wanderlust.
Full-service sites continue to be favoured as they offer convenience and comfort, but a portion of caravanners prefer the self-sufficient approach. This diversity underscores the versatility of caravanning, there is a reason that it appeals to such a wide range of preferences and travel styles.
