Cycle Insurance vs Home Insurance

Many people, and understandably so, don’t realise the real benefits of standalone cycle insurance over their home contents insurance. This is why we’ve put together a little blog to let you know some of the reasons why purchasing a separate cycle insurance policy could be worth your while.
Cover Outside of your Home
The vast majority of home contents insurance will only cover your belongings if they are inside your house at all times. A separate cycle insurance policy means that your bike will continue to be covered when you take it outside, something that your current contents insurance probably won’t do; and lets face it, bicycles often spend just as much time out being ridden as they do inside.
Worldwide Cover
All of our cycle insurance policies come with complementary upgrades to worldwide cover, so not only can you take your cycle out of your house and still be covered, you can cycle all the way round the globe and still maintain the same cover you’d have if you never left the UK.
Home contents insurance, as you can imagine won’t generally cover any of your possessions if you were to take them outside of the UK.
Public Liability and Professional Indemnity
Some of the more comprehensive cycle insurance providers offer public liability and professional indemnity cover which protect you against claims involving injuries to third parties so if you require this extra cover it is available to you. To find out more about public liability then head to our public liability page for extra info.
Commuting and Events Cover
If you use your bicycle to get to work or enjoy participating in cycle events, then standalone cycle insurance can sometimes offer upgraded cover for both of these uses. It can be common during event for accidental damage to occur and one of the main cause of claims for commuters is theft, so these two options are really useful if you commute by bike or participate in cycling events.
