Our Eversure European Breakdown Cover policies have been designed to help protect you against the costs incurred in the event of a breakdown of your vehicle whilst driving in Europe.
European Breakdown Cover offers full roadside assistance and recovery from your front door all the way across Europe, and back again. European breakdown cover for single trip is available for trips lasting 1 day upwards, and annual breakdown policies cover multiple trips up to 90 days each time. We offer cover for onward travel, including a replacement vehicle and accommodation where appropriate. We will reimburse your fees if you breakdown on a European motorway, and if required we will repatriate your vehicle up to its market value.
What is European Breakdown Cover?
Simply put, European Breakdown cover is insurance that provides you with cover in Europe, including the UK.
Having cover in place for your next European road trip can help prevent big problems should you run into difficulties whilst driving abroad.
Breakdowns in the UK can be stressful enough, but if your break down whilst in a different country it can become incredibly difficult to resolve without breakdown cover in place.
Which European Breakdown Cover is Right for Me?
Our European breakdown cover can be split into two different kinds of policies, single trip and annual.
To find out which is right for you, we’ve put together a guide to help you decide:
Single Trip
For people who are travelling to Europe as a one off and aren’t likely to be going again any time soon, single trip European breakdown cover may be right for you.
This is one-off cover designed for people who don’t usually travel abroad much and need breakdown cover for a few weeks or so whilst they’re in Europe.

Annual
If you plan on travelling to Europe every year, or even multiple times a year, then annual European cover sounds like the best option for you.
This is cover that renews each year and provides you with total European cover through the entire calendar year.
With annual cover, you only need to pay a one-off payment each year and be happy in the knowledge that you’re sorted for the year and won’t need to think about it again.
Which Countries Will I Be Covered In?
Our European breakdown cover will provide protection for your vehicle in the following European countries and principalities:
Albania, Andorra, Austria, Balearics, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Canary Isles, Corsica, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Isle of Man, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Madeira, Malta, Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Ireland, Romania, San Marino, Sardinia, Serbia, Sicily, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and Vatican City.
What is Included in European Breakdown Cover?
European Breakdown Cover provide some unique benefits that simply aren’t available with UK breakdown cover, most noticeably, motorway fees cover. We’ve outlined some of the major benefits of European breakdown cover below:
Roadside Assistance
Just like with UK breakdown cover, our European cover provides roadside assistance as standard. So whether your cruising down the autobahn in Germany, or weaving your way through the vineyards of Bordeaux, help will be at hand should you break down.
Onward Travel
To help get you where you need to be, onward travel can be a huge help if you’ve broken down in Europe. If repairs to your vehicle are taking a while and you would like to complete your journey, having onward travel can be really useful whilst abroad, especially if your holiday has only just begun.
Alternative Accommodation
Our European policies can even provide you with overnight accommodation if repairs aren’t progressing quickly, so you and your family can stay in a local hotel while you wait and be reimbursed (up to a certain amount) for the rooms you used.
Repatriation
In very rare circumstances, if the repairs to your vehicle are complicated and all other options have been exhausted, then you or your vehicle may be repatriated home to complete repairs there.
This is usually the last throw of the dice when it comes to European breakdown cover – it hardly ever happens, but you’ll be glad it’s there if you’re ever unlucky enough to be in this situation!
Motorway Fees
Motorway fees cover is unique to European breakdown policies. In some countries, if you break down on the motorway you’ll be charged to call out a special recovery vehicle as normal vehicles won’t be able to reach you. It can be a confusing concept for UK drivers, which is why we’ve put together a handy guide all about it below.
Hire Car Cover
Sometimes you may want to hire a replacement vehicle whilst your car is being repaired to help you get around while you wait. Our European breakdown cover policies offer this benefit as standard so you’ll be safe in the knowledge that you’ll have this option should you need it.
What Do I Do If I Break Down?
As stressful and as scary as breaking down in a foreign country may be, the first thing to do is to not panic!
Make sure your vehicle is in as safe a place as possible and when you’re happy it is you’ll need to contact your assistance provider to let them know what’s happened.
The phone number for your assistance provider will be at the top of your policy certificate, so it’s a good idea to save this number in your phone so it’s easy to get a hold of when you need it.
Let your assistance provider know what’s happened in as much detail as possible so they can provide the most appropriate service for you – a local recovery agent will then be dispatched to hopefully get you going as quickly as possible.
